If the temperature sometimes rises or falls by several degrees, it is rare for it to be extreme in one and the same day. For example, did you know that in 1916 the temperature dropped 55.7°C in one day in Montana? Explanations.

This situation took place on January 23, 1916, in the town of Browning, located in Glacier County, Montana, United States. That day, the temperature dropped dramatically: it went from 6.7°C to -49°C in less than 24 hours.

In total, the temperature dropped by 55.7°C. This is the most virulent diurnal temperature variation ever recorded. This record was entered in the Guinness World Records Book. In 1972 a new record was set, again in Montana. The temperature rose from -54°C to 49°C in just 24 hours. The temperature therefore varied by 103°C in one day. This new record was not noticed until 2002 by the National Climate Extremes Committee which was formed in 1997.

This phenomenon is caused by the Chinook, a wind that causes extreme temperature changes. Could you have endured this temperature change?
