Hertha Berlin have elected Kay Bernstein, a former member of the team’s ultra supporters group, as their new president in a surprise victory over the candidate favoured by club leadership. The 41-year-old communications manager Bernstein has no previous experience in club administration but nonetheless received 1,670 votes from 3,016 valid ballots on Sunday to defeat former German member of parliament Frank Steffel and rank outsider Marvin Brumme.
