Hytale – The Hytale sandbox game changes technologies and delays its release sine die

Hytale, the sandbox game from the Hypixel studio (owned by Riot Games), is going to undergo a complete overhaul of its game engine. As a result, the release which was best planned for 2023 is postponed to an indefinite date.

The members of Hypixel Studios have long been known for their mods and game servers Minecraftbefore they get down to developing their own project, Hytale. We then discovered a very ambitious sandbox game that should allow players to immerse themselves in a world integrating narrative RPG content, but also a multiplayer and community dimension, but above all the possibility of leaving their mark in the game universe – that either by adding content to share within the community, new features through mods or by imagining mini-games.

And the project turns out to be so exciting that Riot Games (League of Legends) announced in 2020 that it had acquired Hypixel Studios. The studio aims to remain independent in its daily management, but while benefiting from the logistical, technical and financial support of riot.

What to ensure the comfortable development of Hytale? Without a doubt. In very long development note published on the official site, the studio indicates that it is initiating a total overhaul of its game engine. The Hytale project had been initiated in another context (a handful of independent developers, lacking time and without means) and the context today has drastically changed: the studio has a hundred developers and has long-term ambitions. Consequently, the studio considers it appropriate to redevelop a game engine which will make it possible to establish more solid founders, to ensure more sustainable exploitation, to offer a better optimized version of the game and to distribute a cross-platform version of Hytale (allowing thus not having to divide the community of players).

But as often, redesigns and redevelopments take time and Hypixel therefore indicates that it has to further push back the release date of Hytale. We remember that at the end of last year, Hypixel hoped to be able to launch its game at best in 2023. Today, the studio says it is aware that Hytale will not be released in 2023 and no launch date has been officially announced. We will therefore be patient while waiting to discover the technological revolution that will become Hytale.
