At a time when the climate crisis is a major concern for everyone, more and more vehicles have been designed in such a way as to limit greenhouse gas emissions. This prototype electric vehicle goes even further, since it eliminates CO2 from the air while driving.
A one-of-a-kind filter
In order to fight against global warming, it is essential to limit greenhouse gas emissions. But it would be even more efficient to remove greenhouse gases from the air. This is the promise of this prototype electric vehicle designed by TU/ecomotive, a team of Dutch research students from the Technical University of Eindhoven. called The Zem (EM-07)the car would indeed be able to capture, store and thus eliminate carbon dioxide from the air as it drives.
More precisely, the prototype uses a special filter – and one of its kind so far – to recycle CO2. In fact, the students have applied for a patent for the technology they invented. For now, the details of this new technology are not yet known. One of the biggest questions on the subject being what will happen to CO2 when it is captured and stored. It has been proposed that these filters can be cleaned when passing through charging stations.
Tanks will thus be available at these stations to store the CO2 captured, reported Interesting Engineering. Subsequently, the gas could be reused in various environmentally friendly projects, such as the manufacture of concrete, synthetic fuel or plastic. As for the little information known about the filter, it was indicated that the small electric car will recycle 2 kilograms of CO2 after 20,000 kilometers distance traveled at an average speed of 60 kilometers per hour. It is also known that the filter currently reaches its capacity after 320 kilometers on the road.
A 100% ecological car
In addition, you should know that to make this new car prototype perfectly ecological, the inventors did not limit themselves to the filter that captures CO2. They made sure to create the prototype while emitting as little CO2 as possible. To this end, the car has been entirely designed with recycled or environmentally friendly materials. For example, recycled plastic was used to make the hull and part of the interior of the vehicle.
Polycarbonate was used instead of glass for the windows, and pineapple leather was used for the seats and other car interior details. As for the technical details of the car, not much is known on the subject. On their website, the designers still revealed that the car will have nine modular 2.3 kWh batteries, as well as a motor with a power of 22 kW. Overall, all the technical details of the car have been designed to be as environmentally friendly as possible.
