But it is not entirely clear why.

Many are looking forward to the remake of the RPG classic Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic, but it doesn’t seem entirely certain that it will see the light of day. According to a report from Bloomberg developer Aspyr Media has not only abruptly fired the game’s art director and design director, Jason Minor and Brad Prince, but also notified employees that the project has been put on hold and that they are now looking for new contracts and development opportunities.

As late as June 30, they reportedly completed a demonstration of the project – a so-called vertical slice – that was shown to production partners Lucasfilm and Sony. The developers were happy with the progress made and were therefore shocked by the two layoffs. They are also said to have been told that a disproportionate amount of time and money was spent on the demonstration – which also did not live up to expectations – and that the project was not sustainable in the long run.

What now happens with the game is unclear, but since Aspyr is now owned by Embracer, it is not impossible that someone else gets the chance to develop it further. A possible alternative would then be Saber Interactive, which has already helped with the development a bit.
