A former Edison resident has been convicted in federal court of kidnapping his son by taking the child to India after tricking the mother to hand over custody in a New Jersey court, the U.S. Attorney’s Office announced. Amitkumar Kanubhai Patel, 38, was found guilty by a jury of one count of international parental kidnapping this past Friday following a five-day trial in U.S. District Court in Camden, the office said.
