Overwatch 2 will replace the first part, the horrors of The Callisto Protocol and the announcement of HYENAS – Wylsacom

What happened?

Part exchange

Overwatch 2 will replace the first part after the release. Rumors of this began midweek, when Blizzard announced that it would “open for you” all of Overwatch’s delayed loot boxes. That is, if you are still playing the first part and you have unopened chests with random rewards left there, they will be opened automatically before the release of the sequel. And then they found official confirmation on the Battle.net website:

Overwatch will be replaced by Overwatch 2 upon the launch of Overwatch 2. All elements of Overwatch will either be replaced with Overwatch 2 equivalents or become unavailable. Overwatch in-game items from Overwatch Legendary Edition will be usable in Overwatch 2.

Recall that Overwatch 2 comes out on October 4, 2022 and will be free, but PvE content will appear later and already for money.

Companion of Terror

The horror developer The Callisto Protocol shared a small portion of the details about the game. Here are some interesting points:

• The author believes that The Callisto Protocol is scarier than his previous work – Dead Space.
• Shooting and close combat in the game will be approximately equal.
• The main melee weapon is a club, as the events take place in a prison. From firearms, a pistol and a rifle are available, but there will always be a shortage of cartridges.
• The weapon has a leveling, and the club has the most extensive weapon tree, because it will be with you for most of the game.
• During melee combat, you have the ability to block or dodge enemy attacks. Block is simpler, but misses some of the damage.
• The protagonist’s gravitational device, with which he can attract or repel enemies, will spend energy, but gradually restore it.
• You can try to run away from the enemies, but they will constantly follow you, even in other rooms.
• The developers have tried to make the hero death animations as brutal as possible.
• During the passage of the game you will visit the surface of the planet, but not in space.
• When creating the project, the authors were inspired by Silent Hill, Resident Evil and “Something”.

The Callisto Protocol releases December 2, 2022 for PC, PlayStation and Xbox.

The team that made Alien: Isolation have announced their new game, HYENAS. This is a PvPvE first-person shooter in a very crazy setting: all the millionaires flew to Mars and abandoned the Earth, and the zero gravity technology that helped them fly away ripped their home planet into pieces, which became the habitat of the surviving humanity. But the rich suddenly got bored with all sorts of trinkets from the Earth and announced a hunt for rare merchandise.

You have to play for Hyenas – directly hunters for “merch”. You land in billionaire space trading centers, where in addition to traps, alarms and mercenaries, there are other players – up to five teams in a match. The goal is simple: collect as much good as possible and get out alive. Each Hyena will have a unique set of abilities to help you be creative when it comes to stealing merch.

HYENAS is slated to release sometime in 2023 on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox, but the developers haven’t decided on a distribution model yet. In general, a strange project, but the trailer looks stylish:

There are two pieces of news for skateboarding fans at once, but let’s start with the bad news: Activision planned to release a remake of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4, but it broke everything itself. According to Tony Hawk, from the very beginning they planned to release Pro Skater 3 + 4, and after the success of 1 + 2, it was a matter of time. That’s just the studio Vicarious Visions, which made the remake, Activision absorbed and turned into an assistant to other teams – they no longer have their own projects. After that, Activision first looked for new people inside, then considered proposals from external studios, but in the end no one turned out to be as good as Vicarious Visions, and that was it. True, Tony Hawk does not give up and hopes that in the future there will still be a worthy team for the remake of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4.

The good news is a little shorter: according to insider Tom Henderson, Skate 4 (aka just skate.) will be shown in July. Moreover, there is information that content creators and journalists will even be allowed to play the finished build. If we take into account that in April the gameplay from the pre-alpha version was leaked to the network, it is likely that the release of the project will take place in the next six months. Game publisher Electronic Arts is set to release four unnamed games between January 1 and March 31, 2023 — Skate 4 may be one of them.

Short events

Some news in one line. They are interesting but short:

• A Plague Tale: Requiem releases October 18 on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and Switch (cloud).
• Two insiders hint at the fact that an announcement related to God of War: Ragnarok is expected on June 30th. Most likely, the exact release date will be announced on this day.
• FromSoftware CEO Hidetaka Miyazaki said that one of their unannounced games is in the final stages of development, and he has already started a new one.
• The PC version of Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection may be released on October 19 – this date was found in the Steam database. Before that, it was listed on June 20.
