Back in 2020, developer Shihab Mehboob released the first version of Aviary, a new Twitter client for iOS, macOS, and even watchOS. Since then, the app has been updated several times with new features. Mehboob is now releasing the second version of Aviary, which has been completely rebuilt from the ground up.

When Aviary was introduced, it brought some unique features. For example, the interface is super customizable with haptic feedback, the iPad version takes advantage of larger screens, and even supports PencilKit so users can draw and tweet right from the app.

What’s new in Aviary 2

Now with Aviary 2, the developer has added even more interesting features to the application. One of these features is the ability to share tweets as images so you can easily post them on image and video-only platforms like Instagram and TikTok without taking a screenshot. There are options that let you change the layout of a shared tweet by changing the font size, background, and more.

Another option added to the app allows users to set a delay time before actually posting tweets. This delay can range from five seconds to one minute and acts like a “Undo Tweets” button. This way, if you wrote something wrong or regretted this tweet, you will still have time before everyone sees it.

With new widgets, Aviary 2 users can view the latest tweets right from the home screen of their iPhone and iPad. Aviary 2 also adds powerful filters based on words, hashtags, users, Twitter apps and clients, media, quoted content, retweets and more. And on the iPad, users can add multiple columns to the app if they want.

There’s even a feature that shows a specific tweet in a Picture-in-Picture (PiP) window that floats on top of other apps, so you can follow that tweet while you’re doing something else. Aviary 2 also supports Twitter hash flags, Siri shortcuts, biometric lock, polls, lists, trends, hidden replies, dark mode, custom icons, Safari extension, and push notifications.

Of course, Aviary 2 still includes versions for iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple Watch.

New business model

While the original Aviary was available as a one-time purchase, Aviary 2 is now based on a subscription model. The monthly subscription is currently $1.99 and the annual subscription is $15.49. However, there is an option that allows you to purchase a lifetime license for $49.99.

Aviary 2 is now available on the App Store. Purchasing the app allows you to use it on all Apple devices through your iCloud account.
