After the announcement of three animated films last June, the first project has just been unveiled at San Diego Comic Con.

The fans of Avatar the Last Airbender have had something to celebrate for some time with the announcement of a multitude of projects around Nickelodeon’s cult work. In 2018, Netflix came to terrify cartoon aficionados by announcing a live-action adaptation reminiscent of the affronts of the first live-action film released in 2010. While this project is still in the works but no longer gives much news, Nickelodeon took the lead in 2021 with the creation ofAvatar Studios”, a division dedicated to creating new content in the rich universe of The Last Airbender.

This year, three animated films were then announced without giving more details. It didn’t take long to learn more since Nickelodeon used San Diego Comic Con as a springboard to unveil the first details. Aang, Katara, Sokka and the whole troupe will return in a dedicated film highlighting the heroes of the first hour.

Little Avatar will become big

This film with a title still kept secret will come to fill the events located between the original series and The Legend of Korra. We will then find our three friends as well as Toph, Zuko and Suki in a new adventure while the group is now in adulthood. No details as to the narrative framework of this new project have yet been shared, but this simple announcement of the great return of these characters is enough to put some balm in the heart.

Two more animated features are in the works, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see the next one focus on Korra’s time. There were also rumors of a possible prequel telling the story of Avatar Kyoshi.. The universe of the last airbender is extremely vast and has already been developed through comics and other novels. The Avatar Studios teams therefore have a good amount of content to process for their future films and series.

With so many projects under his wing, you might as well say that the last airbender has not said his last word, far from there. However, it will be necessary to be patient before finding this universe on our screens since none of these works has a release date at the time of these lines. In the meantime, it is always possible to (re)immerse yourself in Avatar the Last Airbender on Netflix or discover The Legend of Korra on myCanal.
