Via his official blog, Reality Labs says the Meta Quest 2 (formerly Oculus) will increase in price with a drastic $100 hike. The 128GB version will cost €399.99. while the 256GB version will be charged €499.99. Without forgetting the accessories and refurbishments which will also see their prices increase.

To explain this increase, the firm points to the weight of manufacturing costs. Even if inflation, and therefore the high cost of raw materials, is a valid explanation, it should be remembered all the same that the launch price of the helmet was quite unprecedented in the world of virtual reality. While waiting to make the technology more affordable for the general public, Reality Labs explains that this will have other beneficial effects:

“By adjusting the price of Quest 2, we can continue to increase our investment in the research and development of new products that push the virtual reality industry to new heights.”

History of not announcing only bad news, Reality Labs offers to offer the game Beat Saber for all orders between August and December. The company also reminds that great things are planned in the future with in particular many titles such as Ghostbusters VR, Among Us VRThe Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners – Chapter 2: Retribution, BONELAB and NFL PRO ERAthe first officially licensed VR NFL game.

Note all the same that the news falls rather badly since Sony has just presented the functionalities of its PlayStation VR2.
