Three weeks after the release of the third beta of tvOS 16, Apple released the fourth version. While the company almost forgot about the Apple TV operating system during the WWDC 2022 keynote, there are some features that should delight users when it launches this fall.
Today’s build is 20J5344f. Unlike other betas, developers need to download the tvOS 16 test build via Xcode. While the HomePod 16 software is available to a few developers, it’s not clear what the company has in store for its line of smart speakers.
However, here’s what’s new in tvOS 16 beta 4 for now:
Nintendo Switch Controller Compatibility: tvOS 16 will finally support the Nintendo Switch Joy-Cons and Pro Controller. We publish this story here on . Apple states that “the game controller supports many additional Bluetooth and USB game controllers” starting with tvOS 16; HDR10+ support: The latest generation of high dynamic range technology will be supported in the Apple TV app on tvOS 16; Apple TV+ tab video previews: Expanded video previews at the top of the Apple TV+ tab help users find their next favorite Apple Original; Apple Fitness+: In tvOS 16, intensity metrics are called up at key points in your workout and displayed onscreen to motivate you. Intensity: light, moderate, hard and full.
Last but not least, the HomePod 16 software is finally available for public beta testing. Even if you’re a developer, downloading the public beta is easier than getting a limited license. To download it, just follow these steps:
If your iPhone or iPad is already running the latest iOS 16 beta:
Open the Home app on your iPhone or iPad. Click the “…” button in the upper right corner of the screen. Click “Main Settings”. Select the “Update Software” option. Navigate to the HomePod Beta Updates menu. Turn on the toggles for the HomePods you want to install the beta software on.
Along with tvOS 16 beta 4, Apple is releasing iOS 16 beta 4, iPadOS 16 beta 4, watchOS 9 beta 4, and macOS 13 Ventura beta 4.
