Apple is working hard to expand the Apple Car team. A new Bloomberg report today indicates that Apple has hired Luigi Taraborelli, a 20-year veteran of Italian carmaker Lamborghini. This is an important addition to the Project Titan team as Apple plans to release the car later this decade.

Lamborghini Chief Executive Added to Apple Car Team

During his time at Lamborghini, Taraborelli worked primarily in the company’s research and development department. According to his LinkedIn profile, most recently Taraborelli was Head of Chassis and Vehicle Dynamics at the company. In this role, his responsibilities included:

Chassis concept development, vehicle performance, total vehicle lap time, vehicle dynamics goals, handling and ride characteristics, suspension elasto-kinematics, vehicle objectification, virtual simulation, software coding and software parameterization and calibration steps in the vehicle, functional safety , product quality responsibility

Bloomberg notes that Taraborelli has worked on Lamborghini models such as the Urus, Huracan and Aventador. Prior to that, Taraborrelli worked in marketing, vehicle development and testing, and more. He joined the company in October 2001 and left in May 2022.

Today’s report says Taraborrelli will become “one of the most senior managers” on the Apple Car team. He is expected to help spearhead Apple Car design. A recent report also indicated that Jony Ive was involved in the design of the Apple Car, but is no longer with Apple.

The scale of the Apple Car project has changed over the years, and Apple has repeatedly changed strategies in connection with both the departure of high-profile employees and the hiring of high-profile employees. The current goal, however, is to have an electric vehicle with full autonomous driving capabilities by the end of this decade.

Apple Vice President Kevin Lynch, who led the development of the Apple Watch, is currently leading the Apple Car team. Lynch took over after Ford poached Doug Field from the Apple Car team last fall.
