Business Insider reports that James Howell, the man famous for accidentally throwing away a hard drive containing 8,000 bitcoins in 2013, has a new plan to find his now extremely valuable hard drive.

Howell has now come up with a proposal where he plans to dig up the around 110 million pieces of trash that are in the now covered landfill where the hard drive is believed to be. The garbage that is dug up must then be analyzed by a system that consists of both artificial intelligence and human labor. The plan even includes two copies of Boston Dynamics’ robot dog Spot, whose cameras will be used to scan the excavated garbage.

Howell estimates the whole thing will cost around $11 million to complete. The 8,000 bitcoins found on the lost hard drive are worth around $170 million in today’s bitcoin exchange rate.

However, there appears to be a major obstacle to Powell’s latest plan, and that is that he must obtain permission for the excavation from the municipality of the Welsh city of Newport. However, the municipality does not seem to want anything to do with Powell and states that it does not plan to give him permission to dig up the garbage, among other things because it could cause environmental problems.

However, Howell does not seem to be deterred by this and says that he will take the municipality to court if he is not granted permission for his excavation, writes Business Insider.
