A few months from their launch, the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro continue to be talked about. A new leak suggests that the new generation will inherit the same cameras as the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro. We also know a little more about the future tablet from Google.

While all eyes are on the Pixel 6a, Google will launch a new generation of Pixels in the fall. The Pixel 7 and 7 Pro are already official, but a part of mystery continues to surround this vintage. However, several leaks tell us a little more about the photo component of the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro; an area in which Google tends to excel.

The leaker Paras Guglani (@passionategeekz) details on his Twitter account the photo part of his two devices. He says the series will revolve around a 50-megapixel Samsung ISOCELL GN1 sensor. In addition to this module already present on the Pixel 6 range, we would find a 12 megapixel ultra wide-angle, the Sony IMX381. As with the current series, the Pixel 7 would be limited to a double photo sensor while the Pixel 7 Pro would have a triple sensor. This model would add a 48-megapixel Samsung ISOCELL GM 1 telephoto lens, which would be a small novelty. Indeed, the Pixel 6 Pro has a Sony IMX586 lens and Google does not explain the reason for this change.

The Pixel 7 and 7 Pro are expected to offer a 11-megapixel front camera (Samsung 3J1). The latter would offer dual pixel autofocus, as well as the possibility for the Pixel 7 to film in 4K from this front module. So far, this possibility only concerns the more high-end Pro model.

Always on Twitter, the developer Kuba Wojciechowski evokes the same characteristics for the two devices. He also returns to the choice to offer a telephoto lens signed by Samsung instead of a Sony lens. “It seems strange, because the two sensors have quite similar performance”, says the developer. He adds that this decision could be motivated by the desire to offer “more sensors from the same manufacturer”in order to provide more consistent results.

Google does not change its formula (too much), so what?

On paper, Google does not seem to want to take too much risk and it is not a surprise. The Mountain View giant is not used to turning its photo section upside down, which does not prevent it from being one of the benchmarks in the sector. Its Pixel 6 series has confirmed this trend and the Pixel 6 Pro even takes advantage of the presence of the telephoto lens to gain versatility. At Google, the algorithms are even more important that the material part and the absence of technical evolution does not mean that there will be no novelties in this field.

As a reminder, the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro will also have a next-generation Tensor chip. We also discovered that the search giant will make aesthetic changes. The Pixel 7 duo will show up in the fall, integrating Android 13 as soon as it is released.

Could a third Pixel be on the way?

More intriguing and still according to Kuba Wojciechowski, a another Pixel phone is said to be around. This model, not presented by the Californian firm, would bear the code name Lynx or L10. It would ship the same GN1 sensor as the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro, as well as a Sony IMX787 sensor which could be a telephoto lens.

For the developer, the “Lynx” could be an internal device that allows Google to test different camera configurations. However, this is not the first time that this model has been talked about. From the month of May, the site 9to5Google evoked the existence of a mysterious high-end Pixel. This model could be Pixel 7 Ultraalthough this has not been confirmed by Google.

Pixel Fold and tablet, Google’s other projects

Let’s not forget either that the American firm would prepare a folding smartphone. Long awaited before being set aside, the one commonly nicknamed “Pixel Fold” would not be abandoned. It would even have a Samsung GN1 lens, a Sony IMX363 sensor and another IMX386 sensor. For the time being, no technical information has filtered concerning this folding screen model, the launch of which has been postponed several times.

Closer to home, Google will soon return to the tablet segment. A new Pixel slate will see the light of day in 2023 and it would ship a dual photo sensor. This would include two 8-megapixel Sony IMX355 modules, the same sensor before the Pixel 6. As often, the photo is not a priority on tablets and Google will probably save money with this sensor.
