With Dark Passenger, a new studio was founded that has come together from veterans of CD Projekt Red to work on a new IP.

Dark Passenger is a new studio made up of veterans from CD Projekt Red and other developers. The team has been working on pre-production for a new IP set in feudal Japan for the past two years.

The online multiplayer game is developed in the Unreal Engine 5 and relies on the first-person perspective. The game should focus more on PVP, PVE and co-op. Players take on the roles of shinobi and kunoichi, working together to take on both the usurper’s minions and other groups of stealth assassins seeking the same finds.

Traversing these dark lands, player characters will leap over city rooftops, hide under the floors of village huts, climb pagodas, or sneak between shrines and temples undetected. The dizzying terrain gives them endless possibilities of movement, and the changing weather surprises them with sudden downpours, strong winds or fog enveloping the surroundings.

The website further describes the new project: “Our goal is to create exciting online games that are both collaborative and competitive. We are fascinated by human interactions, alliances, daring confrontations and unexpected twists. To make each gameplay unique and surprising, we use many procedural solutions. Although all players have the same goal, they have to change their tactics and move on a different path each time.”

“A proprietary locomotion system allows players to perform amazing stunts, such as For example, chasing arrows shot by other players, dynamically scaling flat walls with Shuko claws, or using a yari spear as a pole to jump over obstacles.”

“The player’s arsenal includes katanas, short tanto and wakizashi swords, kusarigama chains, shurikens, kunai throwing knives and much more. Exciting hand-to-hand combat requires equal parts skill, tactics, and close teamwork.”

“A complex customization system will allow players to create unique characters and modify their weapons, gear, and abilities to their liking. They also get the opportunity to build and develop their own dojo – a space where they can invite friends to train and learn the rules of the game together.”

Player characters will interact with many walks of life, from humble villagers and beggars to highborn townspeople and samurai. However, it will be your job to remain unnoticed and perpetually alert to the dangers that may be lurking from any direction.

The new and previously unnamed project will be released for Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5 and PC via Steam.
