Lufthansa says there are no scheduled flight cancellations on Thursday after more than 1,000 were axed from its Wednesday timetable due to a strike by ground staff. Labour union Verdi, which had called the one-day strike, said that while the walk-out was technically suppose to last until 6 am (0400 GMT) Thursday, in practice the staff were expected to show up for their early morning shifts in time for the day’s first flights. Still, tens of thousands of passengers affected by Wednesday’s strike will need to be rebooked on other planes, a process that could take days.
