In iOS 16, the Messages application gets some long-awaited new features (and often available for years from the competition): cancellation of sending, modification of messages after having sent it, marking of a conversation as unread… Beta 4 brings some additional refinements.
Both sender and receiver now have access to a message’s edit history. Just touch the link Amended under the bubble to see all the changes appear one after the other. You can also hide them.
In previous betas, Messages would just display an “Edited” label without being able to access the unedited message. However, there is a limit to the history: a maximum of five modifications, after which it is no longer possible to edit the message. On the other hand, we keep the window of 15 minutes to make a modification.
Another important change, the time allowed to cancel the sending of a message goes from 15 minutes to 2 minutes only. Then it’s too late, the message will be sent forever and ever even if we still have the possibility to modify it for another 13 minutes.
Undo, edit, restore… What’s new in Messages in iOS 16
