You remember XIII ? the FPS ofUbisoft released in 2003, which adapted the cult comic strip by William Vance and Jean Van Hamme, was entitled to a signed remake Microids and PlayMagic in 2020, but you may recall, this version was widely criticized for its technical flaws.
The publisher had promised updates, and despite a few patches that solved some problems, the overall experience was disappointing. The project has obviously not been abandoned for all that, because Microids would prepare a big update to raise the bar, almost 2 years after the launch.
A news broadcast on the page Steam of the game (and removed when writing our article) did indeed state that development was taken over by Tower Five and that a major patch would be released on September 13, 2022.
To achieve the expected standards and an optimal gaming experience, Microids has decided to entrust the continuation of the development of the XIII Remake video game to the French studio Tower Five (Lornsword: Winter Chronicle). In charge of monitoring the game for over a year, the studio is preparing significant improvements and fixes that will be made available to players on September 13.
On this date, players will be able to update the game for free. To meet their expectations. The entire game has been reworked by the studio, from art direction to AI to numerous technical fixes.
A visual that accompanied the announcement specified that we would be entitled to a new art direction, an improved AI, a reworked HUD, a sound design optimized, but also a frame rate at 30 fps on Switch (version not yet released at this time), 60 fps on PS5 and Xbox Series X | S, and multiplayer online playable from 2 to 13 players, the mode present in the original not being present in the remake. The press release seems too clear and precise to be false, it remains to be seen why it was deleted following its publication. Was it released too early or did the plans change a bit in the meantime? Wait & see !
For the impatient, XIII is available from €13.98 on Amazon.co.uk.
Update : Microids has just confirmed the arrival of the update and the Switch version on September 13, with gameplay and images of the portable edition, to discover on the next page.
“We are aware that the initial release of XIII Remake on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC did not reach the standards that gamers wanted. More than a year ago, we made the decision to entrust the resumption of production to the Roche studio Tower Five, which has already worked with us on several occasions, in particular by successfully porting the game Agatha Christie – The ABC Murders on Nintendo Switch. We really wanted to fix the game in depth and thus offer XIII Remake owners a free update worthy of the original game. These numerous improvements have been incorporated directly into the Nintendo Switch version and the addition of multiplayer mode on all versions completes the game’s development. We can’t wait for players around the world to get their hands on this significant update. , from the end of the summer, in order to (re)discover the adventures of the famous agent XIII” declares Stéphane Longeard, CEO of Microids.
