The full-sized HomePod speaker, 12-inch MacBook, and iMac Pro are no longer available for now, but Apple may change this in the future if rumors are to be believed.

Below, we’ll take a closer look at the possible return of the three old devices and the new features they may have.

homepod

Apple retired the full-size HomePod speaker in March 2021, with the decision to focus on the HomePod mini model.

Released in February 2018, the original HomePod was praised for its excellent sound quality, but its $349 starting price was significantly higher than other smart speakers on the market. Even after Apple reduced the price of the HomePod speaker to $299, its sales didn’t go up.

After the full-sized HomePod was taken off the market, its value on eBay and other online retailers jumped as the speaker is already considered a collectible device.

According to journalist Mark Gurman of Bloomberg, Apple is working on a new HomePod model with an S8 processor, like the Apple Watch Series 8 line. The journalist writes that the new HomePod speaker will be more like the original model than the HomePod mini. This applies to both size and sound quality. In addition, the new HomePod will feature a redesigned top display.

Previously, Gurman also wrote that Apple plans to release a new device that will combine Apple TV, HomePod and FaceTime camera. Nothing is known about this device yet.

12″ MacBook

Apple retired its portable 12-inch MacBook in July 2019, replacing it with the MacBook Air and 13-inch MacBook Pro.

The 12-inch MacBook was released in March 2015. He had a thin and light body, which weighed less than a kilogram. The main features of the 12-inch MacBook Pro were the absence of a cooling system with coolers, a single USB-C connector for both charging and data transfer, the new Force Touch trackpad, and an innovative battery design that made it possible to fit a larger battery in the laptop.

Apple decided to remove the 12-inch MacBook from sale because many users felt it was not powerful enough. The original 12-inch MacBook ran on a 1.1 GHz dual-core Intel Core M processor. Later models had a Core i7 processor, but the Intel processors still didn’t match the laptop’s thin and light design in terms of performance.

Since Apple has moved to its own Apple Silicon processors for Macs, the company could very well bring the 12-inch MacBook back into the lineup. Mark Gurman wrote last month that Apple plans to release a new 12-inch MacBook by 2024. It is not known which model it will be: MacBook, MacBook Air or MacBook Pro.

iMac Pro

iMac Pro disappeared from sale in March 2021. At the time, Apple revealed that most professional iMac users prefer the 27-inch iMac. The company noted that for more demanding users, it has a Mac Pro. The company has since retired the 27-inch iMac, leaving customers with only the 24-inch M1-powered iMac.

The iMac Pro came out in December 2017 and hasn’t been updated much since then. As a result, the 27-inch iMac is faster and more affordable than the standard iMac Pro.

Rumor has it that the iMac Pro will return to the line, but with an Apple Silicon processor. Mark Gurman believes that Apple is working on a larger version of the iMac or iMac Pro, which could come out as early as next year. Most likely, the computer will run on M2 Pro and M2 Max processors.
