In the midst of the tourist season, the Austrian city of Salzburg is turning off the lights at its major sights one hour early, to save electricity amid a looming energy crisis. Starting Monday, the floodlights illuminating major landmarks including the city’s Hohensalzburg fortress will be switched off one hour earlier, at midnight, city councillor Martina Berthold announced on Friday.
