Dwarf Fortress is due to appear on Steam with new pixel graphics as an update to the original ASCII version – and the developers are busy presenting new updates for the different races in the game. After the elves, they now introduced the beastmen in more detail.
Even if there is no concrete release date for the pixel version of Dwarf Fortress, which is supposed to appear on Steam in the near future, the developers never tire of shortening the waiting time for fans with new updates to the game. After the team has already detailed the character arcs and the elven race, a new blog post on Steam now reveals the look at the beastmen race.
Beastmen: Between untamed savagery and human civilization
In Dwarf Fortress, the beastmen are one of the races that players encounter as friends or enemies, but they can also control them as characters in adventure mode. The Beastmen are half human, half animal, and possess appropriate characteristics depending on which animal species they belong to. There are currently almost 200 different sprites, some of which we can see in new screenshots, including a kangaroo and a wombat human:
When Dwarf Fortress will appear as a pixel version on Steam is not yet certain – the developers only give the sentence as the release date: “Time is subjective”. So we’ll probably have to be patient a little longer before we can put our hands on the complex settlement simulation. However, the developers will certainly make our mouths water with further updates until then.
