Now the sound quality will be better for video calls with Google Meet. Code diggers have been researching the latest version of the Google Meet app for Android, and have discovered that Google has started entering code for “binaural audio” or stereo separation.

This means that the app will register sound in the right and left channels, and then distribute and play with the same distribution between the two channels as the sound was registered. In concrete terms, this means that in conversations where several people are in the same picture, for example a family conversation where the whole family is in the picture, or a video conference in the office, it will be easier for the person sitting “on the other side” to hear who it is talking as people sitting to the right in the picture will be heard most in the right speaker / handset and vice versa. It is common for video calling apps to only work with mono audio.

When the new functionality will be launched is not yet known.
