Retro gaming has definitely been on the rise for several years. Nintendo has multiplied the reissues of old consoles, Bandai Namco revives its glories of yesteryear and there are countless remakes to come. And when we talk about video game legend, Atari necessarily has its place. That’s why the American company is happy to announce the upcoming release ofAtari 50: The Anniversary Collection to celebrate its half-century of existence!
Born in 1972, Atari is celebrating its fiftieth birthday this year. An anniversary far from being an incredible celebration since the company is little more than a secondary player, far from its illustrious past. But for all that, its history deserves attention.
With Atari 50: The Anniversary Collection, the company therefore intends to tell us its old anecdotes. Like this dear grandpa who drools about his youth when he had an orange for Christmas, we will be entitled to some classic stuff to eat. Classic from the arcade, the Atari 2600, the Lynx or the Jaguar. And yes, nothing but good. Or not.
Naturally, Atari ensures that the emulation of these old titles will be among the best of the moment and that improvements will come to modernize the experience. Moreover, the developer will take the opportunity to integrate six new games that revisit Atari’s DNA:
- Swordquest: Air World
- Haunted Houses
- VCTR-SCTR
- Neo Breakout
- Quadratank
- Yars’ Revenge Reimagined.
In all, more than 90 games will be playable thanks to this compilation. Atari 50: The Anniversary Collection will also include bonuses for the curious with interviews, documentaries, archives and other artwork and anecdotes on the history of Atari. Perhaps the most exciting element of this new title!
Atari 50: The Anniversary Collection will be released in November 2022.
