Alongside its next-generation GPUs, marked by the arrival of an Immortalis variant with hardware ray tracing, RMA unveiled its next (second) generation of CPU core architectures ARMv9 for smartphones, tablets and laptops that will be found in the next premium SoCs.
So here comes the heart ARM Cortex-X3 always intended to act as a very powerful core in CPU configurations and whose firm has again significantly improved the IPC (Instructions per Cycle).
This will give 25% improved performance in smartphones and even by a third for configurations intended for portable PCs due to less strict thermal constraints.
From big.LITTLE up to 12 cores including 8 X3!
ARM also announces modifications for the big.LITTLE mechanism mixing powerful and economical cores. Until now limited to 8 cores, it goes to 12 hearts and will make it possible to introduce configurations of the type 8+4+0 with 8 ARM Cortex-X3 cores and 4 ARM Cortex-A715 cores for future premium laptops.
With such a CPU set that highlights the very powerful cores, we can expect a solid increase in performance from ARM laptops. Will this be enough to overshadow the Apple M1 and M2 chips?
Exactly, the heart ARM Cortex-A715 constitutes a gentle evolution of the A710 with performance increased by 5% but above all energy efficiency increased by 20%.
Finally, the heart ARM Cortex-A510 remains generally the same for its role as an economic heart but benefits from a slight refresh which reduces its energy consumption by 5%, which will always be good for the autonomy of mobile devices.
