Apple is introducing its new Stage Manager feature on Macs with macOS Ventura and iPadOS 16 for iPad M1 to help “focus on tasks and move between apps and windows easier and faster than ever.” Follow along to learn how to enable Stage Manager on Mac, how it works and how to use it.

This is one of the major new features for Mac and iPad in macOS Ventura and iPadOS 16. Here is Apple’s description of how Stage Manager works:

“Stage Manager automatically organizes open apps and windows so users can focus on their work and still see everything at a glance. The current window users are working in is displayed prominently in the center, while other open windows are displayed on the left so they can quickly and easily switch between tasks. Users can also group windows when working on specific tasks or projects that require different applications. Stage Manager works in conjunction with other macOS windowing tools, including Mission Control and Spaces, so users can now easily navigate to their desktop with a single click.”

macOS Ventura is currently available as a developer beta. The free public beta of macOS Ventura is due out in July. Learn more about installing macOS Ventura in our complete guide.

Enable Stage Manager on Mac

With macOS Ventura running, click the Control Center icon in the top right corner of your Mac (two pill icons). Click “Scene Manager” in the top right corner.

Add Stage Manager to Mac Menu Bar

If you think you’ll be using this feature regularly, it’s handy to add the Scene Manager to your menu bar:

You can also go to System Settings > Control Center > Scene Manager and set it to Show in the menu bar. Now you can turn the Scene Manager on and off faster.

Go back to Control Center > Scene Manager > turn off, or click the button in the menu bar > turn off to stop using, or you can hide recent apps.
