This week, Disney released a helpful update to its streaming service on the Apple TV 4K. For those with supported original HomePods, AirPods, or possibly other speakers, the Disney+ app now works with Dolby Atmos Spatial Audio.
Spotted by Reddit users via FlatpanelsHD, the new Disney+ app update for Apple TV 4K – both 1st and 2nd generation – offers the ability to use Dolby Atmos audio for immersive spatial audio. This naturally requires supported speakers or headphones such as AirPods Pro, AirPods 3, AirPods Max, Original HomePods, and more.
On Apple TV 4K, make sure the Disney+ app is updated to version 2.9.5 to enjoy Atmos Spatial Audio.
FlatpanelsHD has confirmed that the updated audio works for Apple TV 4K with 16 channels registered to the Apple TV video console, which is Dolby Atmos compliant.
This is a notable upgrade as other platforms such as Android TV previously had Atmos support. Ironically, it looks like Atmos was recently broken for Android TV with the latest Disney+ update.
In related news, Disney+, which launched in 40 new countries last month, may be planning a more accessible ad-supported version, and the company is also increasing the price of ESPN+.
