Swedish authorities’ digital service lags behind internationally and some sites have proven impossible for the disabled to use.
Now the National Audit Office will review how well and accessible the state authorities are digitally.
Sweden’s public digital services show signs of deficiencies in accessibility and that they are of varying quality. International measurements also show that other countries are overtaking Sweden in terms of development, states the National Audit Office in a press release.
Accessibility has particular shortcomings for people with disabilities according to a previous review by the Agency for Digital Administration. It found that seven out of ten agencies surveyed had websites that were very difficult or impossible for many people to use.

“The Riksdag has been clear that this is a priority area. The authorities’ digital service must have high accessibility and contribute to simplification for users with different needs, for example for people with disabilities,” says Auditor General Helena Lindberg in the press release.
The National Audit Office will now examine whether the work of state authorities in developing digital services has been effective. The report is expected to be completed in March 2023.
