Defending champion Angelique Kerber’s first-round match at the Bad Homburg tournament was abandoned on Monday as the grass was too wet after rain showers. Kerber was leading 4-2 in the first set against Anastasia Gasanova when the game was interrupted. The match is now set to be resumed on Tuesday. Initially, the game was delayed for more than four hours due to the rain. Whoever makes it to the second round will meet Italy’s Lucia Bronzetti. The tournament in Bad Homburg is one of the last tune-up events before Wimbledon from June 27-July 10. Kerber secured the Grand Slam title there in 2018.
